Who: Rhode Island Massage Envy Spa locations
What: Donated 15 cases of food to the Food Bank
When: December 2014
Why: Holiday Spirit, of course!

The Rhode Island Community Food Bank has been in operation since 1982, soliciting, storing, and distributing surplus food and household items to the hungry, and they’re always looking for more donations. This holiday season, our four Massage Envy Spa locations in Rhode Island got together and collected hundreds of food to donate to the organization. When the Food Bank receives donations, they distribute those food items to the community through a network of 178 food programs across the state of Rhode Island. Together the Food Bank’s network works to make sure that everyone in Rhode Island has access to nutritional food and that no one goes hungry.

Curious about hunger in Rhode Island? Here are some stats:

  • Each month, more than 63,000 Rhode Islanders seek food assistance.
  • One in three persons served by the Food Bank is a child under the age of 18.
  • Last year, the Rhode Island Community Food Bank distributed 9.9 million pounds of food to help those in need.

In November and December 2014, Massage Envy Spa locations across Rhode Island collected food to help this great cause. And, if the warm feeling of philanthropy didn’t fully satisfy guests, when anyone brought a donation into the spa, they would receive a free enhanced therapy–quite a treat! For those of you who don’t know, Massage Envy Spa locations offer three special enhanced therapies that you can add to any massage session: AromaTherapy, Sugar Foot Scrub Therapy, and Deep Muscle Therapy. In less than two months, the four Massage Envy Spa locations gathered 15 cases of food and delivered it to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

On top of distributing food to the hungry, the Food Bank also offers programs to educate the community on cooking and serving food. They teach a food service training course in which students practice cooking by preparing meals and serving them to at-risk children each evening, and they hold a nutrition education program to empower clients to make healthier choices on a limited budget. This is an organization that works hard to make a positive, healthy impact in their community.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to anyone who visited one of our Rhode Island Massage Envy Spa locations and donated to the Community Food Bank this past holiday season.
